Carde takes on Sydney Motorsport Park
Sydney, Australia (8, April 2025) - Emilien Carde conquers round one of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia from down under at the Sydney Motorsport Park. This marks his return with DW Evans GT as the series races at the circuit for the first time.
Carde came into the new season with a new co-driver, Nazim Azman, for the 2025 championship. Azman hails from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and has a rich background in the motorsports world. The pair came into the season with the intent of winning races and being in contention for the teams and drivers championships. "It’s always tough to give precise expectations in our sport. A lot of things can go against you, " Carde said. "But keeping our momentum and consistency from last year and improving will push us forward."
During qualifying, the Number 16 Lamborghini was driven by both Carde and Azman. Carde was the first driver to qualify for race one when an engine issue occurred, resulting in him starting in seventh. "Qualifying was definitely not what we expected because of the engine issue that we faced." Carde said. "The team did an amazing job through the practice session to give us a perfectly balanced car, so there’s still a lot of positive to extract for the next weekend." Azman qualified ninth overall and fifth in the pro class for the second race of the weekend.
Carde took the start of the first race of the season, maintaining seventh position overall and fourth in the pro category. Carde battled with fellow pro driver, Li Zhicong, before handing it to Azman and finishing in fourth place. "It’s really tough to overtake on this track and we know that tire degradation is really high here" Carde said. "So after taking a good start, I tried to save as much tire potential as possible for Azman to maximize our chances of a good result at the end of the race."
Azman took the first stint of race two starting in ninth overall and fifth in the pro category. Azman was able to carve through the field during his stint before handing it over to his co-driver. He was tasked with catching up with his fellow DW Evans GT teammate. Carde was able to take the checkered flag, finishing in second place and taking the first podium of the 2025 season for the new driving pairing and a one-two for the DW Evans GT team! "It was a massive challenge ahead because overtaking is really tough on this track but we managed the tires really well and that helped gave us mega pace." Carde said "To spice things up, our radio wasn’t working so it made things even more challenging."
After a fantastic start to the season, the pair are eagerly waiting for round two at Shanghai International Circuit in China, which will take place on May 16-18th! "A bit of frustration that qualifying had such a big impact on our performance but definitely loads of positives to extract." Carde said "The pace was really good, I'm very happy with our line up and it is always a pleasure to do that in such a great atmosphere with the team. We are expecting a clean sheet on the next round."
